About Vauxhall radio codes
Vauxhall’s radios came from several makers. The CDR500 was built by Delco and the CDR2005 wears a Siemens VDO badge, and both have a serial starting GM. Others were built by Blaupunkt, with a serial starting BP or GM. The Vivaro and Movano used Renault radios, and the 2012–2018 Combo, a Fiat Doblò underneath, has Fiat radios. From about 2004, and earlier on the Vectra C and Signum, came radios such as the CD30 and CD70, which are matched to the car instead.
CDR500 or CDR2005: reading the label
Neither shows its serial on screen, so the radio has to come out. Release keys go into the holes at each corner of the fascia, and some cars need security bolts out first. Our radio removal guide goes through it.
The serial is 14 characters on a printed label or engraved into the metal case. It starts GM1500 on a CDR500 and GM0205 on a CDR2005. The 2005 is a model number, not a year: a CDR2005 can date from around 2001.
The name is printed on the front. You’ll usually find a CDR500 in the Astra G, Zafira A, Vectra B and Corsa B, and a CDR2005 in the Corsa C, Meriva A, Vectra C, Signum and Combo C. Our Delco and Siemens VDO pages cover the same radios by maker.
Ten tries on a CDR, and no more
To put the code in, hold AS while you switch the radio on. The display shows SAFE, then 10 - - - -, where the 10 is how many tries you have left. Set each number with buttons 1 to 4, then hold AS until it beeps.
Every wrong code takes one off that 10, and the wait before the next go grows: about 20 seconds after each of the first two, 10 minutes after the third, and more than 10 hours by the ninth. The radio has to stay switched on while the wait counts down. When all 10 are gone it is locked for good, and the maker’s handbook says it then needs replacing.
So never guess. If your code is refused, check the serial against the label before you use another try.
Vivaro and Movano: a Renault radio inside
Up to 2014 the Vivaro and Movano used Renault radios. Hold buttons 1 and 6 for about 5 seconds and a precode appears: a letter and 3 numbers, like A123. Type that in, here or on our Renault page. Some Vivaros have a CDR2005 instead, and its label starts GM.
From about 2015 to 2018 the radios in both vans are linked to the van itself, so there is no code to work out. The Vivaro from 2019 is built with Peugeot and Citroën, and its radio is not one we can do.
CD30, CD70 and the Car Pass
Radios such as the CD30, CD30 MP3 and CD70 Navi don’t take a code at all. They are matched to the car using its Car Pass, so there is nothing to work out from a serial, and a Vauxhall dealer or an auto-electrician with the right software is the route.
Not every Vauxhall of those years has one, though. Some have a Blaupunkt-built radio, such as the CAR300 or CAR400, with a 14-character serial on its label. Check the label, and if it has one, type it into the free check.
How to find your Vauxhall radio serial number
The serial isn’t shown on the screen: it is printed on a label on the radio itself. The serial tells us exactly which code your radio needs.
On the label
- The serial is not shown on screen.
- Take the radio out with radio removal keys (some have extra screws to undo first).
- Copy the serial from the label: 14 letters and numbers starting GM.
Photograph the label rather than copying it by hand — 0 and O, 1 and I are easy to mix up.
Most radios slide out with a pair of radio removal keys (a few pounds from any car parts shop). Push them into the slots on the front until they click, then ease the radio forward. Some have screws to undo first.

How to enter your Vauxhall radio code
Once you have your code, key it in like this. Your order page shows the same steps next to your code.
- Hold AS and switch the radio on. The screen shows SAFE, then 10 - - - -.
- Buttons 1 to 4 set each number.
- Hold AS until it beeps.
- Buttons 1 to 4 each set one number.
- Hold button 5 (or the tuning knob) to finish.
- Won’t go above 1 for the first number? Use the second code we give you.
- Use buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 to set each number.
- Hold button 6 for about 5 seconds until the radio beeps.
- For each number in your code, press the button with that number on it, once.
- Confirm with the key on the right of the fascia, or by holding the last button.
If your Vauxhall radio says LOCKED, WAIT or SAFE
Each wrong code makes the radio wait longer before the next try, and some radios lock for good after too many. Don’t guess: get the right code first, then follow the steps for your radio.

Why we use your radio’s serial, not your number plate
A radio code belongs to the radio, not the car. A dealer usually looks it up from the Vauxhall’s number plate or VIN (the 17-character number in your logbook), which only works if the car still has the radio it left the factory with. Radios are often swapped under warranty, upgraded, or changed by a previous owner.
The serial is printed on the radio itself, so the code matches the radio in front of you. It is also what lets us check for free before you pay. Main dealers often charge £30–£130, and you usually have to book the car in.

Where is the serial on a Vauxhall CDR500 or CDR2005?
On the label on the radio, so it has to come out with radio removal keys. It is 14 letters and numbers, starting GM1500 on a CDR500 and GM0205 on a CDR2005.
What do SAFE and 10 - - - - mean on my Vauxhall radio?
The radio is ready for its code, and the 10 is how many tries are left. Each wrong code uses one up, and when they are gone the radio is locked for good, so never guess.
My Vivaro shows a letter and 3 numbers when I hold buttons 1 and 6.
That is a Renault precode: the Vivaro and Movano used Renault radios up to 2014. Type it in for a free check.
Can you do a Vauxhall CD30 or CD70?
Not with a code. They are matched to the car with its Car Pass, which a Vauxhall dealer or auto-electrician does. If the label on your radio shows a 14-character serial starting BP instead, it is a Blaupunkt: type that in.
Can you do a Vauxhall Combo van?
The Combo C up to 2011 is a Vauxhall and takes a 14-character GM serial. The Combo D from 2012 is a rebadged Fiat Doblò and carries Fiat radios: if its label reads A2C and a long number, type that in here. If instead it shows a short serial of 4 numbers, that is the Fiat Daiichi unit — use our Fiat page for it, because four bare numbers typed on this page would be read as a mistyped Vauxhall serial.
