About Škoda radio codes
Škoda radios go by name: the Stream, Symphony, Melody, Dance, Beat, Blues, Swing, Bolero, Audience and Rhapsody, the Amundsen and Columbus sat navs, and the early MS 202 and MS 402 cassette radios. In the Fabia, Octavia, Superb, Roomster and Yeti, up to the touchscreen years, they all carry a serial starting SKZ.
Finding the SKZ serial: try the radio manual first
Škoda often put a sticker with the radio’s serial inside the radio manual, and some cars still have the radio card in the handbook wallet. Either saves taking anything out.
Otherwise the serial is on the label on the radio’s case. The small single-height radios, such as the Beat, come out with two keys; the Blues, Swing, Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus usually need four. Our guide to removing a car radio shows where they go.
The serial is SKZ and 11 more letters and numbers, like SKZAZ5L1562150. Type it exactly as printed.
Old Bolero or new Bolero?
Škoda kept some of its radio names when the touchscreens arrived, so a Swing, Bolero or Amundsen can be either kind. The older ones – in the Fabia up to 2014, the Octavia up to 2013 and the Superb up to 2015 – take a code from an SKZ serial. The newer touchscreens are matched to the car and have no code to find.
The year of the car is a good guide, but radios do get swapped. If you’re not sure which you have, type the serial into the free check.
Columbus, Amundsen and the Passat link
The Columbus is Škoda’s larger sat nav radio and the Amundsen the simpler one. Both are double height: four keys, and a hand underneath as it slides out. In the Mk2 Octavia and Superb they take a code from an SKZ serial like any other Škoda radio.
The first Superb, from 2001 to 2008, was built on the VW Passat of the same years, and VW release keys fit its radios.
SKZ codes are looked up, not worked out
A Škoda radio code was set at the factory against its serial, the same way as VW, Audi and SEAT codes, and no formula turns one into the other. We look SKZ serials up in our code lists. We hold a lot of them but not every one, which is why the check is free and comes before you pay.
If it says we don’t have yours, check the serial against the label once more, then try the radio manual or card, or a Škoda dealer.
How to find your Škoda radio serial number
The serial isn’t shown on the screen: it is printed on a label on the radio itself. The serial tells us exactly which code your radio needs.
On the label
- Check the radio card in the handbook wallet first.
- Otherwise take the radio out with radio removal keys.
- Copy the serial from the label: 14 letters and numbers starting VWZ, AUZ, SKZ or SEZ.
Photograph the label rather than copying it by hand — 0 and O, 1 and I are easy to mix up.
Most radios slide out with a pair of radio removal keys (a few pounds from any car parts shop). Push them into the slots on the front until they click, then ease the radio forward. Some have screws to undo first.

- Buttons 1 to 4 set each number (press again to count up).
- Hold one of the arrow (seek) buttons for 2 seconds or more to finish.
If your Škoda radio says LOCKED, WAIT or SAFE
Each wrong code makes the radio wait longer before the next try, and some radios lock for good after too many. Don’t guess: get the right code first, then follow the steps for your radio.

Why we use your radio’s serial, not your number plate
A radio code belongs to the radio, not the car. A dealer usually looks it up from the Škoda’s number plate or VIN (the 17-character number in your logbook), which only works if the car still has the radio it left the factory with. Radios are often swapped under warranty, upgraded, or changed by a previous owner.
The serial is printed on the radio itself, so the code matches the radio in front of you. It is also what lets us check for free before you pay. Main dealers often charge £30–£130, and you usually have to book the car in.

Where do I find the SKZ serial on my Škoda radio?
Look inside the radio manual first: Škoda often put a sticker there with the serial on it. If not, it is on the label on the radio’s case, so the radio has to come out. It starts SKZ and has 14 characters.
My Škoda has a Swing or Bolero touchscreen. Does it need a code?
Not if it is the newer touchscreen kind, in the Fabia from 2014, the Octavia from 2013 or the Superb from 2015: those are matched to the car. The older radios with the same names take a code from an SKZ serial.
Can you unlock a Škoda Columbus or Amundsen sat nav?
Yes, if it is the older kind with an SKZ serial and that serial is in our code lists. The free check tells you before you pay.
My Škoda radio says SAFE 1000. What do I do?
It is waiting for its code. Set each number with buttons 1 to 4, then hold one of the seek arrows for 2 seconds or more. If it shows SAFE with a small number instead, leave it on with the ignition on for an hour first.
Is a Škoda radio code the same as a VW one?
It comes from the same system, but every radio has its own code. The SKZ at the start of the serial shows the radio was made for a Škoda.
