  1. Turn the ignition on and switch the radio on.
  2. Hold buttons 2 and 6 together for 2–3 seconds.
  3. Watch the screen: the serial scrolls past, usually last. Write down the letter and 6 numbers.
  4. Nothing? Try buttons 1 and 6 instead. Still nothing? The serial is also on a label on the radio itself.

Tips for your Land Rover Discovery

  • Confirm the code with the right-hand search arrow, and stop after a few wrong tries: twelve can lock the radio permanently.

The Philips radios with an RG serial and the Visteon 6500 CD with an M serial.

My Discovery 3 wants a code.

Those radios use a different system, so we can’t work it out from the serial. A Land Rover dealer can help.

On the radio case: the radio has to come out on release keys.

Can you do every Land Rover Discovery radio?

For 1998–2002, 2002–2004, yes: the code appears on screen as soon as you have paid; for 2004–2009, not at the moment. The free check tells you which yours is before you pay.

Which radio does my Land Rover Discovery have?

It depends on the year. 1998–2002 (Discovery 2, early): Philips-built radios, Alpine and Harman Kardon on higher trims. 2002–2004 (Discovery 2, later): 6500 CD radios made by Visteon. 2004–2009 (Discovery 3): Land Rover 6-CD radios. Radios were often swapped, so the serial on yours is what counts.

How do I enter the code on a Land Rover Discovery?

Press preset 1 until the first digit shows, then 2, 3 and 4 for the rest. Ten presses brings a digit back round to zero. Press 5 to submit — on Land Rover and other Visteon units it is the right-hand search arrow instead, not preset 5.
