Before you start
Get the code right first time if you can. Most radios allow a set number of tries and then lock themselves for an hour or more — and a few stop for good. If you are not certain of the code, stop and check the serial against the label rather than guessing.
Fiat Stilo / Bravo (Visteon)

Getting the serial first
You need the code before any of this is any use, and the code comes from the serial.
- Take the radio out.
- Read the 6-number serial on the label on the radio.

Ford M-series (Visteon)
Units: Ford 4000 RDS, 5000 RDS, Sound 2000, 3000 Traffic and early 6000 CD
Fitted to: Ford Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Transit, Galaxy, Ka, Escort and Cougar up to about 2005, plus Jaguar S-Type and X-Type and Land Rover Freelander, Discovery and Defender of the same years.

- Turn the ignition on and switch the radio on.
- Hold buttons 2 and 6 together for 2–3 seconds.
- Watch the screen: the serial scrolls past, usually last. Write down the letter and 6 numbers.
- Nothing? Try buttons 1 and 6 instead. Still nothing? The serial is also on a label on the radio itself.
What it looks like: M and 6 numbers
Putting the code in
- Press button 1 until the first number of your code shows. Do the same with buttons 2, 3 and 4.
- Press button 5 to finish (Land Rover: the right-hand arrow button).
- Code not accepted? The screen shows LOCKED and a number. Stop before it gets to 10 and read our locked radio help.
If it refuses the code: LOCKED 10: leave the radio and ignition on for about an hour, then try again, or hold button 6 for 10 seconds to get 3 more tries. LOCKED 13 means those tries are used up: the radio then needs a Ford dealer or a radio specialist.

Ford V-series (6000 CD)
Units: Ford 6000 CD, 6006 CD, later 4500 RDS and Sony CD
Fitted to: Ford Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Transit, Galaxy, C-Max, S-Max, Fusion and most other Fords from about 2003 to 2008.

If the code is refused
Nine times in ten it is one of three things. The code belongs to a different radio, because the serial was misread — an O taken for a zero, or a 1 for an I. The numbers went in in the wrong order. Or the radio is already counting down from an earlier attempt and will not take anything until it clears.
Stop before you use up the tries. Read what the display is telling you first: LOCKED, WAIT, SAFE and ERR each mean something different, and most of them just want the ignition left on for an hour.
