About Audi radio codes

Audi fitted Audi-badged radios – the Chorus, Concert and Symphony, plus the Navigation Plus and RNS-E sat navs – until MMI took over. They share their code system with VW, Škoda and SEAT radios: each code was set at the factory against the serial, and a radio that has lost power shows SAFE until it gets it.

Chorus, Concert or Symphony: finding the AUZ serial

The radio’s name is printed on its front, but its serial never shows on the screen. Look in the service wallet first: Audi supplied a radio card that often carries both the serial and the code.

Otherwise the radio comes out on release keys – four for the double-height Symphony and Navigation Plus – and the label is on top of the case. The serial is AUZ and 11 more characters, like AUZ1Z1F6412082. The number in the form 8xx 035 1xx beside it is a part number, the same on every radio of that build. How to remove a car radio shows the keys.

Audis with MMI don’t have a radio code

MMI replaced the Concert and Symphony on the A6 from 2004, the A4 from 2008 and the A3 from 2012. It is matched to the car rather than locked with a code, so there is nothing to work out from a serial. If your Audi has the round MMI controller in the centre console, an Audi dealer is the route.

An MMI Audi that plays but stays silent after a radio swap has a matching problem, not a lost code.

Putting the code into a Concert or Symphony

When the radio wants its code, the display shows SAFE and then 1000. Press button 1 until the first number of your code shows, and buttons 2, 3 and 4 for the rest. Then hold one of the seek arrows for 2 seconds or more to finish.

A wrong code makes the radio wait before the next go, and SAFE comes back with a small number next to it. Leave it on, ignition included, for an hour before trying again, and check the AUZ serial against the label before you do.

Where Audi codes come from

Like every Volkswagen-group radio, an Audi’s code can’t be calculated from its serial. We look AUZ serials up in our code lists. We hold many, though not all, and the free check tells you which before you pay anything.

A Concert or Symphony with a serial starting VWZ, SKZ or SEZ isn’t a mistake: the radio was first supplied for a VW, Škoda or SEAT. Type in exactly what the label says.

How to find your Audi radio serial number

The serial isn’t shown on the screen: it is printed on a label on the radio itself. The serial tells us exactly which code your radio needs.

Where it is

On the label

  1. Check the radio card in the handbook wallet first.
  2. Otherwise take the radio out with radio removal keys.
  3. Copy the serial from the label: 14 letters and numbers starting VWZ, AUZ, SKZ or SEZ.

Photograph the label rather than copying it by hand — 0 and O, 1 and I are easy to mix up.

RADIOPush both keys in until they click, then pull the radio forward

Most radios slide out with a pair of radio removal keys (a few pounds from any car parts shop). Push them into the slots on the front until they click, then ease the radio forward. Some have screws to undo first.

Years: 1995–2008 (A3 to 2012). The serial is what counts, as radios are often swapped between cars.

How to enter your Audi radio code

Once you have your code, key it in like this. Your order page shows the same steps next to your code.

VW group (Beta, Gamma, RCD, Concert…)

  1. Buttons 1 to 4 set each number (press again to count up).
  2. Hold one of the arrow (seek) buttons for 2 seconds or more to finish.

If your Audi radio says LOCKED, WAIT or SAFE

Each wrong code makes the radio wait longer before the next try, and some radios lock for good after too many. Don’t guess: get the right code first, then follow the steps for your radio.

VW group (Beta, Gamma, RCD, Concert…)SAFE — leave the radio on for 1 hour (the ignition must stay on), then try again.

Why we use your radio’s serial, not your number plate

A radio code belongs to the radio, not the car. A dealer usually looks it up from the Audi’s number plate or VIN (the 17-character number in your logbook), which only works if the car still has the radio it left the factory with. Radios are often swapped under warranty, upgraded, or changed by a previous owner.

The serial is printed on the radio itself, so the code matches the radio in front of you. It is also what lets us check for free before you pay. Main dealers often charge £30–£130, and you usually have to book the car in.

What we can and can’t do

We can do

  • Chorus, Concert and Symphony in the A2, A3, A4, A6 and TT
  • Navigation Plus and RNS-E sat nav radios with an AUZ serial
  • AUZ serials that are in our code lists

We can’t do (yet)

  • MMI systems — the A6 from 2004, the A4 from 2008 and the A3 from 2012
  • AUZ serials that aren’t in our code lists — the free check tells you before you pay

We always tell you before you pay. Not sure? Send us a photo of the label.

Audi radio code questions

Where is the serial on an Audi Concert or Symphony?

On the label on top of the radio, and on the radio card in the service wallet. Audi radios don’t show it on screen. It is 14 characters starting AUZ.

My Audi has MMI. Can you unlock it?

No. MMI is matched to the car, so there is no code to find from a serial. An Audi dealer can help with it.

Does a Bose sound system change my Audi radio code?

No. The code belongs to the radio itself, so a Bose amplifier makes no difference. Use the AUZ serial from the radio’s label.

My Audi radio serial starts VWZ, not AUZ. Is that right?

Yes, if the radio was first supplied for a VW. The same radios went into both makes, and the first three letters show which one. Type the serial exactly as printed.

Which Audi radios can you do?

The Chorus, Concert and Symphony, and the Navigation Plus and RNS-E sat navs, in the A2, A3, A4, A6 and TT before MMI, as long as the AUZ serial is in our code lists. The free check tells you before you pay.

How much is an Audi radio code?

£9.99 per code. The free check comes first, so you only pay once we know we can do it, and you get your money back if the code doesn’t work.

How long does it take?

Most Audi codes appear on screen the moment you’ve paid, and we email you a copy. If yours has to be looked up by our team, we email it within 2 hours and tell you before you pay.

What if the code doesn’t work?

Check the serial first: 0 and O, or 1 and I, are easy to mix up. Still stuck? Tell us from your order page and we’ll put it right or refund you in full.
