Toyota Yaris radio code from your serial

Most Yaris radios never ask for a code: after a battery change they come back on with nothing worse than the clock to reset. If yours does ask, hold buttons 1 and 6 and it will show a sixteen-character ERC — that is what we work from.

Which radio is in your Toyota Yaris?

Toyota fitted different radios over the years. Find your Yaris’s years below, but go by the serial: radios are often swapped, and the free check reads it for you.

How to find your Toyota Yaris radio serial number

Most Toyota Yaris radios show their serial on the screen, so you don’t need to take anything apart. The serial tells us exactly which code your radio needs.

Quickest way

On the screen

  1. Check first that the radio really wants a code: most Toyotas sold in the UK come back on by themselves.
  2. Hold the main button on the screen and switch the parking lights on and off 3 or 4 times, until a new screen appears.
  3. Press the one button on that screen. Write down the 16 letters and numbers it shows: that is the ERC.

Hold the lit buttons with the radio on.

On the label

The serial is also printed on a label on the top or side of the radio. Most radios slide out with a pair of radio removal keys (a few pounds from any car parts shop). Push them into the slots on the front until they click, then ease the radio forward. Some have screws to undo first.

Photograph the label rather than copying it by hand — 0 and O, 1 and I are easy to mix up.

Tips for your Toyota Yaris

  • Try the radio first. A Yaris that has just had a new battery will very often play straight away, and there is nothing to buy.
  • If it does ask, hold buttons 1 and 6 together with the radio on. The display shows ERC and then sixteen characters.
  • The only letters in an ERC are A to F. Anything else is a misread.

How to enter your Toyota Yaris radio code

Once you have your code, key it in like this. Your order page shows the same steps next to your code.

Toyota / Lexus ERC

  1. Type in your 8-character code exactly, with the numbered buttons or the touchscreen.

If your Toyota Yaris radio says LOCKED, WAIT or SAFE

Each wrong code makes the radio wait longer before the next try, and some radios lock for good after too many. Don’t guess: get the right code first, then follow the steps for your radio.

Why we use your radio’s serial, not your number plate

A radio code belongs to the radio, not the car. A dealer usually looks it up from the Toyota Yaris’s number plate or VIN (the 17-character number in your logbook), which only works if the car still has the radio it left the factory with. Radios are often swapped under warranty, upgraded, or changed by a previous owner.

The serial is printed on the radio itself, so the code matches the radio in front of you. It is also what lets us check for free before you pay. Main dealers often charge £30–£130, and you usually have to book the car in.

Toyota Yaris radio code questions

My Yaris radio is asking for a code after a new battery.

Hold buttons 1 and 6 together to bring up the ERC, then type those sixteen characters into the free check. If nothing comes up when you hold them, the radio is probably not code-locked at all.

Does every Yaris need a radio code?

No — most do not. Toyota did not lock every unit, which is why the first thing to do is simply switch it on.

How many characters is the code itself?

Eight, not four. Toyota ERC codes are longer than the four digits most makes use, and they can contain letters.

How much is a Toyota Yaris radio code?

£9.99 per code. The free check comes first, so you only pay once we know we can do it, and you get your money back if the code doesn’t work.

How long does it take?

Most Toyota Yaris codes appear on screen the moment you’ve paid, and we email you a copy. If yours has to be looked up by our team, we email it within 2 hours and tell you before you pay.

What if the code doesn’t work?

Check the serial first: 0 and O, or 1 and I, are easy to mix up. Still stuck? Tell us from your order page and we’ll put it right or refund you in full.
